CUNARD 1840 - 2015 : 175 années de tradition transatlantique.
En 1839, l'homme d'affaires Samuel Cunard (1787–1865), fondateur de la Compagnie Cunard Line, signe avec le gouvernement de sa majesté britannique une convention créant une liaison postale bi mensuelle entre Liverpool (Grande Bretagne), Halifax (Canada) et Boston (USA) ; en conséquence les navires porteront les trois lettres R.M.S. avant leur nom (RMS pour Royal Mail Ship) et achemineront le courrier des services postaux de sa très gracieuse majesté vers les Etats-Unis.
Le 4 juillet 1840 le premier paquebot de la Compagnie Cunard « RMS Britannia » démarre la ligne transatlantique britannique vers le nouveau continent : c'est un steamer à roues à aubes et coque en bois équipé de 3 mâts portant voilure.
La compagnie Cunard commémore cet évènement en créant une croisière transatlantique de 12 nuits à bord du navire amiral de la Cunard « Queen Mary 2 » qui aura lieu en juillet 2015. Le départ de cette croisière se fera de Southampton le 2 juillet pour relier Liverpool le 4 juillet, puis le paquebot mettra cap à l'ouest pour rejoindre le 10 juillet Halifax et ensuite Boston le 12 juillet puis New-York le 14 juillet. Cette croisière est baptisée Spirit of Sir Samuel, des feux d'artifices et d'autres surprises sont attendues à l'arrivée de cette croisière.

In 1839, the businessman Samuel Cunard ( 1787-1865 ), the founder of the Cunard Line, sign with the government of its British majesty an agreement creating a regular maritime line to transport the Royal Mail from Liverpool (Great Britain) to Halifax and Boston. Following this signature ships will wear three letters before their name: RMS for Royal Mail Ship and will forward the mail of the postal services of her very graceful majesty towards the United States.
On July 4th, 1840 the first liner of the Cunard Line "RMS Britannia" starts the British transatlantic line towards the new continent: it is a steamer with paddle wheels and wooden hull equipped with 3 masts with sails.
Cunard Line commemorates this event by creating a very special transatlantic cruise of 12 nights aboard its great transatlantic liner Cunard's flagship “Queen Mary 2” who will take place in July, 2015.
The departure of this cruise will be from Southampton on July 2nd. QM2 will sail from Liverpool on July 4th, and then the liner will sail to the West to join Halifax on July 10th and then Boston on July 12th and finally New York on July 14th. This cruise is named “Spirit of Sir Samuel”.
