Fin 1958 le paquebot Ile de France est retiré du service, le service Transatlantique de la French Line sera bientôt assuré par un superbe paquebot neuf : SS France.
Ile de France est entré en service en 1927.
Le paquebot quittera début 1959 le port du Havre sous le nom de Furanzu Maru pour rejoindre le Japon.
Arrivé là bas, il fera l'objet d'une cérémonie Shinto pour vénérer son âme eu égard à l'histoire légendaire du célèbre paquebot.
Il va servir de cadre à un film catastrophe sous le nom de paquebot Claridon et dans le film "The Last Voyage"....
